Postponed
Several minutes ago we were told that tonight’s game is off. It will be made up at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, which means a lot of things, not the least of which is heavy-duty scrambling among all of the media here who were planning to fly to Detroit in the morning. Jimmie Lee Solomon of MLB will be in the interview room in 10 minutes to explain what happened tonight . . . and thousands of fans filing out right now are very curious based on everything I was overhearing in the concourses during the long delay for provisional bad weather.
ONCE AGAIN THE FANS GET SCREWED….THIS IS ALL MLB AND SELIG
How many NYkers ya think are calling in sick tomorrow?
What really stinks about this is I just can’t blow off work tomorrow, I can;t sell my tickets and I’m out my money. But why should MLB care about the little guy; they’re pocketing my money. Does anyone think that MLB actually cares if there are people in the seats?
Bud, do me a favor: don’t spend the money from my tickets all in one place.
So who do we blame? MLB? The Yankees? ESPN? I was at the game tonight through all the ******** that was the “first” rain delay. Bob Sheppard finally announced the delay due to weather and said that we – the fans – would be informed as more information became available. We waited, and waited . . . finally the tarp started coming up. Rather than begin the game, we were subject to some French’s mustard dancing fan ****. About 20 minutes later, the tarp went back on the field. Still we heard nothing. We found about the cancelled game when some guy behind us got a call from his wife who heard it on the radio. STILL no word from the yankees. NOW we have to take off work to go to the game tomorrow. Will anyone reimburse us for that? The rain finally fell for the 2nd time in the Bronx about an hour and a half after it stopped. It has stopped again. It is 11:47pm and I am home watching Mets highlights on NY1. Baloney!
To know that the game was never going to be played and just let the stadium soak up all the concession money and parking to boot, is dead wrong.
MLB had no intention of ever letting this game start, as was evident by the Tigers never setting foot in the dugout all night.
MLB should cover all parking lot fees for tomorrows game to make things right with those of us who will be able to attend. As for the fans who will have to eat their tickets or give them away, nothing can be done to make it right. There was a sufficient window available to get the whole game in, I have sat thru worse and this whole mess could have been averted. MLB & Selig will have egg on their faces with NY fans once again!!
Why wasn’t the game either postponed much earlier or played at its schedule time? I was at the game listening to the radio and the weather forecast at 8pm called for some rain until 9:30pm and then a window before heavy rain starting at 11:30pm. Waiting until 10pm to possibly start made absolutely no sense. The crowd was very angry, thinking the Yankees just wanted to delay the postponent in order to sell some more beer. (When they took the tarp off, the guys sitting next to me went and bought 4 beers!) The game was supposedly restarting at 10pm but at 9:55, Mussina hadn’t even warmed up. Apparently, the postponement was announced on ESPN much earlier than they announced it at the Stadium. Is this any way for the Yankees to treat their fans?
To the Yankees and their management…. Hit ’em in the neck! Sickening how they duped the fans tonight. No announcement on the delay, late announcement on the cancellation. It took a long time, but finally disgusted to be a Yankees fan!
What a disgraceful way to run a business! This is the most $$$ I’ve spent on tickets to a game since the strike in ’94, and I doubt I ever will again. The worst part of it is that I took my daugter to the game tonight to celebrate her 9th birthday on Saturday, and she cried when the cancellation was finally announced. I don’t think she was so much upset as she was confused by the fact that it had only rained lightly and it wasn’t raining at all when the game was called. Very sad – I’m sorry that I got her hopes up by buying the tickets for us.
To say that MLB, the Yankees and ESPN dropped the ball on this one is a huge understatement. It became obvious that this game was never going to happen when several minutes before the proposed 2nd start time of 10pm, both dugouts were still empty, Unfortunately, I’m one of the fans who gets screwed here, because I can’t blow off work tommorrow since I rearranged my work schedule to pay a $26 cover charge to drink some beers in a parking lot in the bronx then drive home! this *****
I think MLB or the Yanks should offer refunds. It is total BS for me to be out all the money I laid out tonight. What a racket!!!!!
But then again, I’ve been a season ticket holder for 13 years now and have been screwed around with and robbed of my money so many times that I guess I should just stop going. NOT!!! See we the fans are *******. We are like the bird that flies into the window over and over again not realizing that glass is a solid object and you can’t fly through it. I love the yanks and I guess I will continue to be screwed forever…can anyone say THE NEW YANKEE STADIUM ’09?
If anyone wants my tickets at face value for tomorrow’s make-up game, please call me at (718) 935-4958 or (732) 297-8727.
I have one ticket available for today’s game, if anyone is interested, although I am sure there will be a TON available!
I have been a diehard Yankee fan for 30 years, and a season ticket holder for 8.
We all deserve much better than the treatment we received last night.
THERE HAS TO BE A LAWYER WHO WAS AT THE GAME LAST NIGHT!! FANS UNITE!!! LETS FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST MLB. THEY ANNOUNCED A RAIN DELAY ON ESPN AND A RAINOUT AND DID NOT TELL THE FANS AT THE STADIUM. MLB OWES ME $26 FOR PARKING AT LEAST!! THIS WAS A TOTAL DISGRACE AND I BLAME MLB. IT’S A SHAME THE GAME I LOVE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ME.
I agree – this was a TRAVESTY and it all has nothing to do with trying to accommodate the fans. Has EVERYTHING to do with MONEY. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY.
Kiss my bottom, MLB.
Hey Neil – if you’re suing, I’ll take $15 an hour times the 5 wasted hours last night for my babysitter, = $75. I’ll forget, for the time being, my $4 for the subways.
Thanks!
